Charles A. Tapp
For nearly 30 years and in many scenarios, Charles Tapp has served as a pastor, professor, administrator, writer and radio/television host sharing God’s love and saving grace with the world. His ministry is fueled by the message found in Zechariah 4:6: “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD Almighty.” Prayer is at the center of his life and the way he leads the ministry of Sligo Church. An avid racquet sports fan and reader, he also enjoys being a lifelong student. He and his wife, Maureen, a nurse administrator, have three grown daughters.
Don McFarlane worked as a pastor in Jamaica for six years before moving to the British Isles where he served in a variety of pastoral and administrative positions, including union president, for thirty three years. He and his wife, Mary, have three children and six grandchildren. Pastor McFarlane is excited about the return of Jesus to earth but at the same time is passionate about the kingdom of God here and now. He holds to the view that the highest form of worship is service and that love for one another is the purest expression of God’s kingdom in the life of the believer. He has as the point of reference for his ministry the compassion that Jesus demonstrated in His own ministry.
Born in Oaxaca Mexico, Gerry immigrated to the United States in 1971. He lived with his family in California for most of his life and is a fourth generation Adventist who loves serving the church, especially its children and youth. Gerry graduated with a B.A. in Theology from Antillean Adventist University in Puerto Rico in 2010 and subsequently served as youth pastor at Hemet Valley Church in CA, UAA University Church, and West Palm Beach Spanish Church before his arrival at Sligo. Pastor Lopez believes that children are the future of the church and that the youth are the “gift” of the church. He also believes that a church will have an expiration date if it does not actively minister to these important groups. He and his wife, Eunice, have two daughters, Brianah and Viahnca.
Cheryl Wilson-Bridges serves as Sligo’s pastor for worship. She holds an MA in Practical Theology, Worship and Renewal, and a doctorate in Strategic Leadership. The thesis for her Masters was, “A Resource Manual on Worship Ministries,” and the final project for her doctorate was titled, “Levite Praise: God’s Biblical Design for Praise and Worship.” Dr. Wilson Bridges has demonstrated the ability to provide day to day education, training, strategy development and program management for promoting genuine worship experience. She is a deeply spiritual leader, who came to Sligo with more than 12 years’ experience as minister of worship at the Community Praise Center Seventh-day Adventist Church. Her husband, Conrad and son, Darius, are essential components of her overall ministry.
Pastor for Youth and Young Adults
Originally from Sydney, Australia, Joseph served as Director of Tertiary and Young Adult Ministries for the South Queensland Conference prior to his call to Sligo Church. Joseph has worked as a Chartered Accountant (CPA’s equivalent) for a leading Australian accountancy firm before leaving the corporate world to study at the Andrews Theological Seminary for the ministry. His passion is to empower youth and young adults in their journey to become disciples of Jesus and emulate Christ’s life and ministry in all that they do. He and his wife Christina enjoy overseas mission trips, playing basketball and spending quality time with family and friends.
