Led by Marion Hudson, one of Sligo’s most caring and committed members, this ministry focuses on preparing:
- communion and cleaning the towels and utensils afterwards. They also help distribute the elements.
- robes and towels, etc. for baptisms and cleaning them afterwards. Deaconesses are also the ones who have the privilege of welcoming a newly baptized member as they step out of the water.
- a bereavement meal for families who have lost loved ones.
To join this ministry, you need to have an especially caring heart and a willingness to help with preparation and clean up during very significant times in a church member’s life.
You may also be called on to assist in taking up the offering.
Our Sligo elders are each assigned a parish of 20-30 names. They are required to keep in touch with these members on a regular basis, so that as a church family, we can share each other’s cares and concerns.
Elders use their gift of pastoral care to give spiritual leadership, including visitation and directing them to practical care.
Elders are often called upon to assist with worship as part of the platform party and with communion services in distributing the elements.
The Head Elder, Erwin Mack and his associate head elders, together with pastors, select members to become elders who have shown that they have spiritual leadership qualities in harmony with those outlined in the SDA Church Manual.
